Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Lesson inspired by this one!
For my third center, I created a tic-tac-toe board by taping together nine Ziploc sandwich bags. I wrote sight words on 4x6 notecards and placed them inside the bags. I cut out Xs and Os using the die cut machine.

Because I had three students, I chose to have one of them be Xs, one be Os, and the third was my judge. One of the players had to point to a sight word, say it, and look at the judge. If the judge gave them a thumbs up, that meant they said it correctly and got to put their X or O on the spot. I monitored to make sure the judge was making good calls, and they rotated roles after each game.
This was arguably the best center yet! Only one student in each group grasped the strategy of Tic-Tac-Toe, but they all were reading their sight words and that was the goal.
Ohhhhh great idea with vocab….if they can tell the definition of the word (Social Studies vocab for example) they get to...
Sight word tic tac toe....teacher, you’ll likely find something cool
